Oromo : Dr Merera Gudina to meet with Members of Oromo Community in Minnesota

Professor Merera Gudina, the Chairman of Oromo Federalist Congress (OFC), is coming to Minneapolis to provide election update to Diaspora community members.

In the upcoming Ethiopia’s parliamentary election; the OFC, led by Mr. Bulcha Demeksa and Dr. Merera, has fielded candidates for over 90% the parliamentary seats in Oromia. Oromia is Ethiopia’s most populous region.

These Oromo opposition parties are also the leading members of Forum for Democracy and Dialogue (Medrek), which has emerged as a serious contender in the 2010 election against Meles Zenawi’s TPLF/EPRDF. Dr. Merera is the immediate Chairman of Medrek.

On this working visit to the United States, Dr. Merera is expected to brief the Oromo community in Minneapolis on the opposition party’s preparation for the upcoming election, the strength and role of the Oromo parties within the opposition coalition, and on the state of political and human rights conditions in Oromia.
