Democracy and human rights after Meles

A hearing organized by Congressman Christopher H. Smith (R-NJ), Chairman of U.S. House Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, Global Human Rights, and International Organizations entitled “Ethiopia After Meles: The future of democracy and human rights.” U.S. officials at the House of Representatives heard from Donald Y. Yamamoto, Earl W. Gast, Dr. Berhanu Nega, Dr. Peter Pham, Obang Metho and Adotei Akweiregarding human rights violations, press freedom, political opposition and allegations of government interference in religious affairs.
