Ethiopia on findings of the UN Monitoring group

Dina Mufti, a spokesperson for Ethiopia’s foreign minister, addressed the latest report of the UN Monitoring group on Eritrea and Somalia underscoring Eritrea’s key role in undermining Somalia’s security.

Mufti suggested for the UN to apply stricter sanctions on Eritrea. The Eritrean government has denied links with armed groups in Somalia since 2009.

Tesfa-Alem Tekle of Sudan Tribune writes,

The Ethiopian government said it has its own, as well as international evidence to support its latest allegations against the secretive Red Sea nation. Mufti said there was a need for tightened sanctions to cripple Eritrea’s negative role across the volatile East African region. Eritrean envoy to the African Union (AU) in Addis Ababa was on Monday unavailable for comment.
